SUMMARY:[:IW]לולה אריאס | ותיקי מלחמה | פתיחה[:en]Lola Arias | Veterans | Opening [:]
DESCRIPTION:Within the framework of Intersections\, at the Jerusalem Film Festival\, the Mamuta Art and Research Center presents Argentinean artist\, theatre director\, and filmmaker Lola Arias. Veterans is a 5-channel exhibition\, in which soldiers re-enact traumatic war moments from the Falklands\, more than 30 years later. Five films play simultaneously and the viewer can move between the different tales:  The Swimmer by Marcelo Vallejo\, a formal metal worker now a triathlon champion;  The Voice by Daniel Terzano\, a psychologist now employed at a psychiatric hospital; The Sinking of the Belgrano by Dario Volonté\, a petty naval officer who now earns his living as a tenor; Last Day of War by Guillermo Dellepiane\, a retired brigadier and air force pilot\, and The Diary of a Soldier by Fabián Volonté\, a car mechanic reading from his tattered diary\, recording his experiences prior to the beginning of the war as a soldier.

SUMMARY:[:IW] הדיבוק (1937–2017) סרט\, תזמורת ומיצג בהופעה חיה[:en]Der Dybbuk 1937-2017 | Film\, Live Orchestra and Live Performance[:]
DESCRIPTION:Der Dybbuk 1937-2017 | Film\, Live Orcehstra and Live Performance by Sala-manca group\, The Jerusalem Street Orchestra\, conducted by Ido Shpitalnik\, Adi Kaplan and Shachar Carmel | Yiddish (with English and Hebrew subtitles)\nA new edition of Michael Waszynski’s Film (Poland) with by Adi Kaplan\, Shachar Carmel & Sala-manca \n״The dead were returned to life\, and a culture long vanished wiped out by the Holocaust\, was resurrected on the screen” (Ira Konigsberg) \nA new\, re-edited version of the Yiddish film will be screened with live music and dubbing performance in the courtyard of the former Jerusalem Leprosarium (Hansen House)\, a venue no less gothic than the film’s aesthetics. \nThe new\, film-performance version is based on the film directed by Michael Waszynsky (1937)\, based upon S. Ansky’s play Der Dybbuk. Ansky wrote the play after completing the ethnographic expedition he organized between 1912-1914. The play (and film) tells the story of the ill-fated love between Hanan and Lea\, the possession of Lea’s body by Hanan’s soul\, the exorcism ceremony\, and death as resolution – a re-encounter of the lovers in the next world. \nAdi Kaplan\, Shahar Carmel\, and Sala-manca not only re-edited the film\, they also replaced the original music composed by Henekh Kohn and the cantorial songs performed by Gershon Sirotta\, with a new score. Performed live by the Jerusalem Street Orchestra\, conducted by Ido Shpitalnik\, the score is an adapted version of the Vltva (The Moldau)\, the second symphonic poem of Má vlast (My Homeland)\, by Czech composer Bedřich Smetana. The use of Smetana’s Moldau as a clear reference to Israel’s national anthem – resonating it\, but different – creates a liminal sonic soundscape incapable of defining an accurate sense of place or ideology. \nLea Mauas and Diego Rotman of the Sala-manca group are professional and real life partners\, possessing the voices of the “dead but eternal” characters\, originally performed by another real-life couple\, Lili Liliana (Leah) and Leon Liebgold (Hannan) \nIn the spirit of The Dybbuk\, the artists visit the archive instead of the cemetery\, and invite the dead to dance with the living once again. \nWith the support of The National Authority for Yiddish Culture\, Ostrovsky Family Fund\, Hansen House\, Jerusalem Municipality\, Bet Shalom Aleichem\, and the Polish Institute.

It is based on the memoirs of André Devigny\, a member of the French Resistance held in Montluc prisonby the occupying Germans during World War II. The protagonist of the film is called Fontaine. The second part of the title comes from the Bible (John 3:8) using the words of the Authorized King James Version (more recent translations use words like “wants” (which is the title in French) or “pleases” instead of “listeth”). Bresson himself was imprisoned by the Germans as a member of the French Resistance. \nThe soundtrack uses the Kyrie from Mozart’s Great Mass in C minor\, K. 427.[1] The film was entered into the 1957 Cannes Film Festival. \n

SUMMARY:[:IW]10.12.2016 יום זכויות האדם הבינלאומי | פרויקט וידיאו ארט בינלאומי | [:en]10 December 2016\, International Human Rights Day | A World Wide Video-art Project[:]
DESCRIPTION:”Anu Banu” group presents: \nOn 10 December 1948 the UN-Council adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Each year this day is marked as the International Day of Human Rights. The Dutch organisation `Global Village Artists Network` (stichting White Cube) has created for this day a truly world wide project. Not only video-artists from each corner of the world\, but also shown simultaniously at different venues around the globe. \nGlobal Village Artists Network (stichting White Cube) is best known for its biennial art-project Global Village. Global Village is organized every two years since 2010. ‘Meeting’ is the central theme: artists from all over the world meet each other and the public. Every 2 years a new selection of about 65 emerging artists is made. Since 2010 we organized Global Village exhibitions in the Netherlands\, France\, Germany\, Denmark\, Azerbaijan and Macedonia. Next to this project Stichting White Cube organizes other exhibitions and projects within the EU. Stimulating cultural exchange between artists and public is the key factor in our productions. \nGlobal Videos\nGlobal Videos is a daughter-project of Global Village. With the Global Village-project we were faced with various logistical problems\, such as costs of transport\, visa\, customs\, etc. Due to those many artists weren’t able to be present at one of our exhibition\, especially artists from Africa\, Middle-East\, Latin-America and Asia found it difficult to get visa or to transport their art. With Global Videos we found an easy way which enable us to receive art-videos from each part of the world by internet; no visa-\, transport- or customs problems. And at the same time internet provide us a way to send the videos gathered by us back into the world to reach audiences outside our regulair exhibition-circuit. \n2016 is the first year we organize Global Videos. Our aim is to build up audiences in the coming 2 years. So that in 2018 when the Universal Declaration of Human Rights celebrates its 70th birthday we can organize Global Videos at 70 locations around the world (on all continents) with 70 art-videos from artists also from each corner of this earth. Thanks to our partners Global Videos can now been seen at already 5 continents. Screenings are organized at these 16 locations: \nFilmhuis Alkmaar in Alkmaar\, the Netherlands\,\nKulturhuset Kilden in Brøndby\, Denmark\,\nBurnaby Arts Council/Deer Lake Gallery in Burnaby BC\, Canada\,\nHelsinki Cosmopolitan Association in Helsinki\, Finland\,\nThe Little One Atelier in Hong Kong\, Hong Kong SAR\,\nSinema Kolikan in Jakarta\, Indonesia\,\nMamuta Art and Research Center in Jerusalem\, Israel\,\nStudio Seven in Karachi\, Pakistan\,\nSpółdzielnia Ogniwo in Krakow\, Poland\,\nGallery Mcube in Lalitpur\, Nepal\,\nThe Serpentine Gallery in Lismore NSW\, Australia\,\nComuna de Han-Ian in Macau\, Macau SAR\,\nNoname hub in Milan\, Italy\,\nBeechwood House in Moffat\, Scotland\,\nParatissima/Y.C. in Skopje\, FYR Macedonia\,\nGalleria Rajatila in Tampere\, Finland\,\nStudio Sonia Gil in Rio de Janeiro\, Brazil and\nPodium de Flux in Zaandam\, the Netherlands

DESCRIPTION:New Sweet 16mm Screening at Lisbon Cinema (mamuta in Hansen) ~ Free Entrance\nin collaboration with the Jerusalem Cinematheq and the Israeli Film Archives \nThe Little Soldier (French: Le Petit Soldat) is a 1960 French film\, written and directed by French filmmaker Jean-Luc Godard\, but not released until 1963. It was Godard’s first film with Anna Karina\, who starred as Véronica Dreyer alongside Michel Subor (as Bruno Forestier). \nDuring the Algerian War\, Bruno Forestier lives in Geneva to escape the enlistment in France. Working for French intelligence\, he is ordered to kill Palivoda\, who is pro-FLN (National Liberation Front of Algeria)\, to prove he is not a double agent. Refusal and hesitation keep him from carrying out the assassination. \nMeanwhile\, he meets and falls in love with Véronica Dreyer\, who helped the FLN. Bruno plans to leave with her for Brazil\, but is captured and tortured by Algerian revolutionaries. \nHe escapes\, and agrees to kill Palivoda for the French in exchange for passage to Brazil for himself and Veronica. However\, the French discover Veronica’s ties to the FLN\, and torture her to death.

מהם הגבולות בין הפרטי לציבורי?\nארץ: ישראל\, צרפת\nשנה: 1960\nאורך: 60 דקות\nשפה: אנגלית \n“Description of a Struggle” (1960 Israel/France 60 mins)\ndirector: Chris Marker\nMemories are at the core of Chris Marker’s work. The vague connections between recorded history\, communal memory and personal reminiscences\, the myriad of political factors\, ideological agendas and cultural filters that invariably shape our body of recollections\, the ethical dilemmas and psychological repercussions triggered by the traumatic events of the past\, all emerge as intriguing poetic motifs in his films.

Mamuta and the JFF at La Ira de Dios\, Buenos Aires
DESCRIPTION:At La Ira de Dios\, Buenos Aires \nPresenting a selection of Israeli Video Art from the “Intersections” of the Jerusalem Film Festival:\nIntersections (Israel Video Art)\nfrom the Jerusalem Film Festival – Expermiental Cinema and Video Art Award (2010-2014) \n\nCurated by Sala-manca artists group (Mamuta Art and Media Center)\nPresented by Diego Rotman \nOryctolagus Cuniculus |Keren Shavit | 2010 | 7′\nA group of men in long white coats congregate at the local community center basketball gym for the evaluation of 144 rabbits. The rabbit scoring highest in all categories is declared the winner. \nAmir Yartsiv | Detroit | 13′\nThe title of the video is borrowed from this training area in the country’s southern region. “Detroit” is a 1:1 simulation of a Palestinian city. The simulation generates an alternative reality which conceals the true reality. The training city “Detroit” was intended to prepare soldiers for combat in an urban area. It resembles a Muslim quarter\, thus meeting the users’ needs in a simulation which would furnish them with a fantasy of an Arab city. \nAmitai Arnon\, Esther Bires | Masks | 2014 | 12′\nThe film Masks was shot over 12 years during which Esther and Amitai documented two siblings at Purim festivities\, dressed up as different characters and embodying various roles. In Purim\, as in the carnival\, sacred and sanctified things are legitimately parodied. For 12 minutes a partial portrait of the children’s growing up is presented\, in states of abandon. Their adolescence and identity play is designated by the immediate surroundings of their life\, the Israeli town of Ramla – according to the national and religious timetable and the growing children’s life cycle during the film. \nOhad Fishof | ABDUCTION | 2010 | 8:34\nBased on an eponymous sci-fi story. Here\, it is man who abducts the alien\, and not vice versa.” The film and the story are a second part in a series of works\, “Hoon\,” which describes characters\, sites\, and events in the imaginary town of Hoon. \nDana Gillerman | Pornographic Collage | 2014 | 9:44\nTen women from diverse backgrounds were asked to watch a short porn film and\ndescribe what they see. The viewing is via computer\, filmed in Skype-like or porn-film style: intimate\, domestic and unpretentious. \nSally Krysztal Kramberg | Je te vois | 2013 | 1:38\nA video work that almost merges with the whiteness of the wall; a screwdriver emerges through a cardboard wall. The screwdriver pierces the surface separating it from the external world and opens a window that reveals nothing.

SUMMARY:אותו נהר פעמייםSame River Twice\, A film by Effi and Amir
DESCRIPTION:In 1869\, John McGregor\, a Scottish adventurer and explorer\, set out on a journey along the Jordan River from the river source to the Sea of Galilee. As he gazed down from the northern reaches of the Jordan he wrote: “To say the very least of this scene\, it was at any rate pretty. What it would seem if bereft of its holy associations and remembrance of a hundred armies that came this way […] I really cannot tell\, having failed (and willingly) in every attempt to look at the vale of Jordan as a mere river’s banks ”. In the summer of 2011 Effi and Amir\, now a decade in Europe\, retraced McGregor’s steps. Throughout a land of rented log cabins and kayaks\, bustling ith Israeli vacationers\, they take us with them on a journey down the river’s path. With great sincerity and a rare combination of intimacy and distance they gradually transform from traveler-explorers to explored travelers\, as the people they meet along the way unabashedly confront them with questions. The varied encounters\, view of the landscape and their own interventions raise questions of “natural” and “naturalized ”\, kinship” and “ownership”\, “closeness” and “distance”\, and about the ability – or inability – to see the place through the biographical and ideological veils that have produced us. \n110 min | 16/9 | COUL | 2013 | VO HE – EN / ST FR – EN \nfor more information visit the film site: http://www.deuxfoislememefleuve.net/
