DESCRIPTION:In her recent video and photography pieces (2013 – 2016)\, Keren Shavit refers to different genres\, finding inspiration in experimental film\, documentary film\, home videos and even reality TV shows\, despite the aesthetic and narrative gap between Shavit’s work and the TV genre. Shavit places herself at the center of the arena\, exposing the viewer to the sensitive relations between the artist and the film’s subjects. \nShavit defines her own unique approach to beauty\, continuing the development of her aesthetics\, a process that she started in her first work: a different model for family life\, different rules of behavior\, attraction to what is considered unusual and different. Shavit’s corpus of work stands out in the Israel art world. Her voice\, like the voices of the subjects of her films\, is surprising\, intriguing\, shocking\, enjoyable\, and calls for a more complex life\, where the dark can be a positive norm. \nKeren Shavit is a mixed media artist and curator\, living and working in Brooklyn\, New York\, and a graduate of Bezalel Academy of Art and Design\, Jerusalem. The main areas of focus in her work are experimental narratives and the re-rendering of reality and memory. \nOpening live show: Winter Family \nWinter Family is an Israeli-French experimental music duo consisting of Ruth Rosenthal and Xavier Klaine\, who have been working together since 2004. Their albums were released under the Sub Rosa\, Alt-Vinyl and Ici d’ailleurs labels to great acclaim. The duo has performed at venues\, churches\, galleries and theaters around the world\, including the Louvre\, the Art Basel fair\, the Dormition Abbey in Jerusalem and more.

DESCRIPTION:During summer 2014 Shimon Lev and Friedemann Derschmidt exhibited their joint project “two family archives” in P8 gallery in Tel Aviv. This was followed by several exhibitions\, presentations\, screenings\, installations\, and lectures done under this label in Austria\, Germany\, and Israel.\n Both artists have been investigating their family narratives and working with their family heritage for more than 20 years. While Lev is the son of a holocaust survivor\, Derschmidt has to face the fact that the generations of his grandparents and great grandparents have been active Nazis in Austria and Germany. The two artists collaborating in trying to find strategies of communication beyond the known paths.\n The project is emphasizing the question of whether and how it can be possible to understand mechanisms\, that trace back to the beginning of the 19th century\, which made the Shoah possible. Derschmidts great grandfather was a medical doctors and one of the most prominent eugenisist in Austria. So the question of the role of back then modern science and it’s legacy will be as well topic as well as questions of ethics\, science and religion – Shimon Lev’s father was an internationally well known physicist. The two artists countinue to develop the project and are trying to find new and unconventional ways to talk about trans- generational inheritance and it’s impact to our individual biographies on one side and the question of “how to overcome” the limitations of the personal social determinations in order to be able to start a dialog. \n Each one will give a 25 min presentation of his part\, which will be followed by joint video work\, “His- story. Discussion will be followed afterwards.

During September and October the project will take the form of an exhibition at Tag Team Studio\, showing works by national and international artists\, including Marianne Heier\, Marysia Lewandowska\, Hélène Frichot\, Luis Guerra\, Georgia Kotretsos\, Brandon LaBelle\, Sala-manca\,  and Lise Skou. The political imagination is posited as a tool for problematizing and negotiating contemporary crises\, enabling an understanding of public assembly as being founded upon intensely creative and psychic labors that equally contain secret desires\, generative noises\, breaks in identity and community\, and assemblages of deviant knowledge. \nIn his book\, Disagreement\, Jacques Rancière identifies two sides to the governmental\, what he calls “the political” and “the police”. As he states\, often what we imagine as “the political” is only a mode of policing. Such a dichotomous view\, while providing an important perspective\, may overlook the more nuanced\, in-between articulations found in grass-roots movements\, civic cultures\, radical dreaming\, unlikely friendships and acts of (non)work\, the daily rituals and encounters between neighbors and strangers\, as well as the deep poetics of relating to what is not yet\, through which agency and collective actions find their future footing. \nThe exhibition at Tag Team Studios\, divided into two editions\, brings together works\, propositions\, and documents that consider relations between individual determination and social and institutional structures. DESCRIPTION:Exodus is a project that takes the form of a lecture-performance\, using Skype and split audiences\, researching questions of mobility\, migration\, outsiderness\, homeland and statelessness. \nEncompassing several journeys of migrants and refugees\, the work reflects upon the position of being away from one’s homeland and mother-tongue. It also examines the historical and political connections between different mobility statuses – from Jewish refugees fleeing Europe during World War II\, to the 1948 Palestinian exodus and Nakba\, to Syrian-born Palestinians making attempts to find shelter in Europe today – being second-time refugees\, through the artist’s point of view as a Jewish-Israeli based in Jerusalem\, temporary located in Germany. \nIn a world of migration\, new questions of national and ethnic identity arise\, while global colonialist and imperialist forces have made people foreigners in their homeland. I am interested in both the subjective emotional aspect of being a stranger and the effect of it on one’s political position. \nIf I forget thee\, O Jerusalem/ Let my right hand forget her cunning/ Let my tongue cleave to the roof of my mouth/ If I remember thee not/ If I set not Jerusalem above my chiefest joy//\nPsalms \nWithin the form of a lecture-performance\, I weave different references from the Jewish tradition and place it in a new context. Performed in English\, Hebrew\, Arabic and German\, the “Babylonian tower” indicates my experience in different social and cultural environments. The film won the Award for the Best Original Contribution to the Progress of Cinematography at the 1947 Venice Film Festival. \nJoe/Narcissus (Jack Bittner) is an ordinary man who has recently signed a complicated lease on a room. As he wonders how to pay the rent\, he discovers that he can see the contents of his mind unfolding whilst looking into his eyes in the mirror. He realises that he can apply his gift to others (“If you can look inside yourself\, you can look inside anyone!”)\, and sets up a business in his room\, selling tailor-made dreams to a variety of frustrated and neurotic clients. DESCRIPTION:New Sweet 16mm Screening at Lisbon Cinema (mamuta in Hansen) ~ Free Entrance\nin collaboration with the Jerusalem Cinematheq and the Israeli Film Archives \nThe Little Soldier (French: Le Petit Soldat) is a 1960 French film\, written and directed by French filmmaker Jean-Luc Godard\, but not released until 1963. It was Godard’s first film with Anna Karina\, who starred as Véronica Dreyer alongside Michel Subor (as Bruno Forestier). \nDuring the Algerian War\, Bruno Forestier lives in Geneva to escape the enlistment in France. Working for French intelligence\, he is ordered to kill Palivoda\, who is pro-FLN (National Liberation Front of Algeria)\, to prove he is not a double agent. Refusal and hesitation keep him from carrying out the assassination. \nMeanwhile\, he meets and falls in love with Véronica Dreyer\, who helped the FLN. Bruno plans to leave with her for Brazil\, but is captured and tortured by Algerian revolutionaries. \nHe escapes\, and agrees to kill Palivoda for the French in exchange for passage to Brazil for himself and Veronica. However\, the French discover Veronica’s ties to the FLN\, and torture her to death.

DESCRIPTION:”Anu Banu” group presents: \nOn 10 December 1948 the UN-Council adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Each year this day is marked as the International Day of Human Rights. The Dutch organisation `Global Village Artists Network` (stichting White Cube) has created for this day a truly world wide project. Not only video-artists from each corner of the world\, but also shown simultaniously at different venues around the globe. \nGlobal Village Artists Network (stichting White Cube) is best known for its biennial art-project Global Village. Global Village is organized every two years since 2010. ‘Meeting’ is the central theme: artists from all over the world meet each other and the public. Every 2 years a new selection of about 65 emerging artists is made. Since 2010 we organized Global Village exhibitions in the Netherlands\, France\, Germany\, Denmark\, Azerbaijan and Macedonia. Next to this project Stichting White Cube organizes other exhibitions and projects within the EU. Stimulating cultural exchange between artists and public is the key factor in our productions. \nGlobal Videos\nGlobal Videos is a daughter-project of Global Village. With the Global Village-project we were faced with various logistical problems\, such as costs of transport\, visa\, customs\, etc. Due to those many artists weren’t able to be present at one of our exhibition\, especially artists from Africa\, Middle-East\, Latin-America and Asia found it difficult to get visa or to transport their art. With Global Videos we found an easy way which enable us to receive art-videos from each part of the world by internet; no visa-\, transport- or customs problems. And at the same time internet provide us a way to send the videos gathered by us back into the world to reach audiences outside our regulair exhibition-circuit. \n2016 is the first year we organize Global Videos. Our aim is to build up audiences in the coming 2 years. So that in 2018 when the Universal Declaration of Human Rights celebrates its 70th birthday we can organize Global Videos at 70 locations around the world (on all continents) with 70 art-videos from artists also from each corner of this earth. Thanks to our partners Global Videos can now been seen at already 5 continents. It is based on the memoirs of André Devigny\, a member of the French Resistance held in Montluc prisonby the occupying Germans during World War II. The protagonist of the film is called Fontaine. The second part of the title comes from the Bible (John 3:8) using the words of the Authorized King James Version (more recent translations use words like “wants” (which is the title in French) or “pleases” instead of “listeth”). Bresson himself was imprisoned by the Germans as a member of the French Resistance. \nThe soundtrack uses the Kyrie from Mozart’s Great Mass in C minor\, K. 427.[1] The film was entered into the 1957 Cannes Film Festival. \n
