SUMMARY:הרפובליקה הדימיונית\,  מפגש עם ברנדון לאבל ודיאגו רוטמן (קבוצת סלה-מנקה) בברגןThe Imaginary Republic\, Meeting with Brandon Labelle and Diego Rotman (Sala-manca Group) in Bergen
DESCRIPTION:Upcoming: The Imaginary Republic Part 1 & 2 \n09. – 18. September / 22. September – 16. October \nHélène Frichot\, Luis Guerra\, Marianne Heier\, Georgia Kotretsos\,\nBrandon LaBelle\, Marysia Lewandowska\, Sala-manca and Lise Skou \n+ + + \nOPENING: The Imaginary Republic (Part 1) \nWelcome to the opening of the first part of The Imaginary Republic\, Friday 9th of September at 19:00h! \nThe Imaginary Republic is a research project developed by Brandon LaBelle. During September and October the project will take the form of an exhibition at Tag Team Studio\, showing works by national and international artists\, including Marianne Heier\, Marysia Lewandowska\, Hélène Frichot\, Luis Guerra\, Georgia Kotretsos\, Brandon LaBelle\, Sala-manca\, and Lise Skou. Through propositional and speculative works the exhibition\, presented in two editions\, focuses on questions and experiences of public life and culture. \nPART 1:\nArtists:\nKotretsos\, Guerra\, Heier\, LaBelle\nOpening hours:\nSeptember 10th – 18th\nSaturdays & Sundays: 12:00 – 17:00h\nWeekdays: by appointment \nPART 2:\nArtists:\nFrichot\, Lewandowska\, Rotman\, Skou\nOpening hours:\nSeptember 22nd – October 16th\nSaturdays & Sundays: 12:00 – 17:00h\nWeekdays: by appointment \nThe exhibition is held in conjunction with the Partisan Café event program:\nMarianne Heier / September 8th – 17:00h\nMarysia Lewandowska\, Lise Skou / September 23rd – 17:00h\nDiego Rotman (Sala-manca Group)\, Brandon LaBelle / September 24th – 17:00h \nPlease note that the second part of the exhibition opens on a Thursday\, not on a Friday.\nFor more info on the project\, see the detailed description below. \n+ + + \nThe Imaginary Republic looks at questions of public life and civic culture in today’s global environment\, and considers how ongoing economic\, social and political unrest has led to an intensification of grass-roots initiatives\, artistic activism\, alternative instituting and forms of commoning. \nAs a network of related participants\, the project develops through shared methods and modes of experimental pedagogy\, critical togetherness\, public and creative instituting\, and looks to identify through their expressions possibilities for political imagining. The political imagination is posited as a tool for problematizing and negotiating contemporary crises\, enabling an understanding of public assembly as being founded upon intensely creative and psychic labors that equally contain secret desires\, generative noises\, breaks in identity and community\, and assemblages of deviant knowledge. \nIn his book\, Disagreement\, Jacques Rancière identifies two sides to the governmental\, what he calls “the political” and “the police”. As he states\, often what we imagine as “the political” is only a mode of policing. Such a dichotomous view\, while providing an important perspective\, may overlook the more nuanced\, in-between articulations found in grass-roots movements\, civic cultures\, radical dreaming\, unlikely friendships and acts of (non)work\, the daily rituals and encounters between neighbors and strangers\, as well as the deep poetics of relating to what is not yet\, through which agency and collective actions find their future footing. \nThe exhibition at Tag Team Studios\, divided into two editions\, brings together works\, propositions\, and documents that consider relations between individual determination and social and institutional structures. Questions of art and economy\, biopolitics and vacancy\, transience\, piracy and infrastructures of the poor are brought forward as critical and creative arenas of struggle. \nThe exhibition is presented in collaboration with the Partisan Café\, and includes three evening events with participating artists.\nSee more info here. \nOrganized with support from the Bergen Academy of Art and Design.

SUMMARY:אקסודוס: סקייפ-פרפורמנס מאת לי לוריאן\, בכורה של עבודה בתהליך נצחיExodus: A Skype-performance by Li Lorian
DESCRIPTION:Exodus is a project that takes the form of a lecture-performance\, using Skype and split audiences\, researching questions of mobility\, migration\, outsiderness\, homeland and statelessness. \nEncompassing several journeys of migrants and refugees\, the work reflects upon the position of being away from one’s homeland and mother-tongue. It also examines the historical and political connections between different mobility statuses – from Jewish refugees fleeing Europe during World War II\, to the 1948 Palestinian exodus and Nakba\, to Syrian-born Palestinians making attempts to find shelter in Europe today – being second-time refugees\, through the artist’s point of view as a Jewish-Israeli based in Jerusalem\, temporary located in Germany. \nIn a world of migration\, new questions of national and ethnic identity arise\, while global colonialist and imperialist forces have made people foreigners in their homeland. I am interested in both the subjective emotional aspect of being a stranger and the effect of it on one’s political position. \nIf I forget thee\, O Jerusalem/ Let my right hand forget her cunning/ Let my tongue cleave to the roof of my mouth/ If I remember thee not/ If I set not Jerusalem above my chiefest joy//\nPsalms \nWithin the form of a lecture-performance\, I weave different references from the Jewish tradition and place it in a new context. Performed in English\, Hebrew\, Arabic and German\, the “Babylonian tower” indicates my experience in different social and cultural environments. Using Skype and split audiences – one live and the other abroad (watching the piece live through a screen on-line)\, I wish to research the long distance relations between the two audiences and examine what is “out of sight\, out of mind” both in format and in content. \nPerformance of work in progress: 27.9.16\n8pm | Akademie Schloss Solitude\, Stuttgart // 9pm | Mamuta Art Center\, Jerusalem

SUMMARY:Dreams that Money Can Buy (1947) מועדון ה-16 מציג את סרטו של להנס ריכטר:Dreams that Money Can Buy (1947) by Hans Richter at Sweet 16
DESCRIPTION:Note: Missing the first 10 mins. of the film\nScreen in 16mm\nCollaborators included Max Ernst\, Marcel Duchamp\, Man Ray\, Alexander Calder\, Darius Milhaud and Fernand Léger. The film won the Award for the Best Original Contribution to the Progress of Cinematography at the 1947 Venice Film Festival. \nJoe/Narcissus (Jack Bittner) is an ordinary man who has recently signed a complicated lease on a room. As he wonders how to pay the rent\, he discovers that he can see the contents of his mind unfolding whilst looking into his eyes in the mirror. He realises that he can apply his gift to others (“If you can look inside yourself\, you can look inside anyone!”)\, and sets up a business in his room\, selling tailor-made dreams to a variety of frustrated and neurotic clients. Each of the seven surreal dream sequences in the diegesis is in fact the creation of a contemporary avant-garde and/or surrealist artist\, as follows:\nDesire Max Ernst (Director/Writer)\nThe Girl with the Prefabricated Heart Fernand Léger (Director/Writer)\nSong Lyrics John Latouche Sung by Libby Holman and Josh White\, accompanied by Norma Cazanjian and Doris Okerson\nRuth\, Roses and Revolvers Man Ray (Director/Writer)\nMusic By Darius Milhaud\nDiscs Marcel Duchamp (Writer)\nMusic By John Cage\nCircus Alexander Calder (Writer)\nMusic By David Diamond\nBallet Alexander Calder (Director/Writer)\nMusic By Paul Bowles\nNarcissus Hans Richter (Director/Writer)\nMusic By Louis Applebaum Dialogue by Richard Holback and Hans Richter\nJoe’s waiting room is full within minutes of his first day of operation\, “the first installment on the 2 billion clients” according to the male narrator in voiceover\, whose voice is the only one we hear in the non-dream sequences.

SUMMARY:Sweet 16: Le Petit Soldat by Jean-Luc Godard (1960)
DESCRIPTION:New Sweet 16mm Screening at Lisbon Cinema (mamuta in Hansen) ~ Free Entrance\nin collaboration with the Jerusalem Cinematheq and the Israeli Film Archives \nThe Little Soldier (French: Le Petit Soldat) is a 1960 French film\, written and directed by French filmmaker Jean-Luc Godard\, but not released until 1963. It was Godard’s first film with Anna Karina\, who starred as Véronica Dreyer alongside Michel Subor (as Bruno Forestier). \nDuring the Algerian War\, Bruno Forestier lives in Geneva to escape the enlistment in France. Working for French intelligence\, he is ordered to kill Palivoda\, who is pro-FLN (National Liberation Front of Algeria)\, to prove he is not a double agent. Refusal and hesitation keep him from carrying out the assassination. \nMeanwhile\, he meets and falls in love with Véronica Dreyer\, who helped the FLN. Bruno plans to leave with her for Brazil\, but is captured and tortured by Algerian revolutionaries. \nHe escapes\, and agrees to kill Palivoda for the French in exchange for passage to Brazil for himself and Veronica. However\, the French discover Veronica’s ties to the FLN\, and torture her to death.

SUMMARY:[:IW]10.12.2016 יום זכויות האדם הבינלאומי | פרויקט וידיאו ארט בינלאומי | [:en]10 December 2016\, International Human Rights Day | A World Wide Video-art Project[:]
DESCRIPTION:”Anu Banu” group presents: \nOn 10 December 1948 the UN-Council adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Each year this day is marked as the International Day of Human Rights. The Dutch organisation `Global Village Artists Network` (stichting White Cube) has created for this day a truly world wide project. Not only video-artists from each corner of the world\, but also shown simultaniously at different venues around the globe. \nGlobal Village Artists Network (stichting White Cube) is best known for its biennial art-project Global Village. Global Village is organized every two years since 2010. ‘Meeting’ is the central theme: artists from all over the world meet each other and the public. Every 2 years a new selection of about 65 emerging artists is made. Since 2010 we organized Global Village exhibitions in the Netherlands\, France\, Germany\, Denmark\, Azerbaijan and Macedonia. Next to this project Stichting White Cube organizes other exhibitions and projects within the EU. Stimulating cultural exchange between artists and public is the key factor in our productions. \nGlobal Videos\nGlobal Videos is a daughter-project of Global Village. With the Global Village-project we were faced with various logistical problems\, such as costs of transport\, visa\, customs\, etc. Due to those many artists weren’t able to be present at one of our exhibition\, especially artists from Africa\, Middle-East\, Latin-America and Asia found it difficult to get visa or to transport their art. With Global Videos we found an easy way which enable us to receive art-videos from each part of the world by internet; no visa-\, transport- or customs problems. And at the same time internet provide us a way to send the videos gathered by us back into the world to reach audiences outside our regulair exhibition-circuit. \n2016 is the first year we organize Global Videos. Our aim is to build up audiences in the coming 2 years. So that in 2018 when the Universal Declaration of Human Rights celebrates its 70th birthday we can organize Global Videos at 70 locations around the world (on all continents) with 70 art-videos from artists also from each corner of this earth. Thanks to our partners Global Videos can now been seen at already 5 continents. Screenings are organized at these 16 locations: \nFilmhuis Alkmaar in Alkmaar\, the Netherlands\,\nKulturhuset Kilden in Brøndby\, Denmark\,\nBurnaby Arts Council/Deer Lake Gallery in Burnaby BC\, Canada\,\nHelsinki Cosmopolitan Association in Helsinki\, Finland\,\nThe Little One Atelier in Hong Kong\, Hong Kong SAR\,\nSinema Kolikan in Jakarta\, Indonesia\,\nMamuta Art and Research Center in Jerusalem\, Israel\,\nStudio Seven in Karachi\, Pakistan\,\nSpółdzielnia Ogniwo in Krakow\, Poland\,\nGallery Mcube in Lalitpur\, Nepal\,\nThe Serpentine Gallery in Lismore NSW\, Australia\,\nComuna de Han-Ian in Macau\, Macau SAR\,\nNoname hub in Milan\, Italy\,\nBeechwood House in Moffat\, Scotland\,\nParatissima/Y.C. in Skopje\, FYR Macedonia\,\nGalleria Rajatila in Tampere\, Finland\,\nStudio Sonia Gil in Rio de Janeiro\, Brazil and\nPodium de Flux in Zaandam\, the Netherlands

DESCRIPTION:In the frame of the Sweet 16 Club and in occasion of the International Day for Human Rights in collaboration with the Jerusalem Cinematheq and the Israeli Film Archives and support of OFF\n\nTangos\, The Exile of Gardel\, Pino Solanas\nIn Paris\, a troupe of artistically inclined Argentine exiles long for their homeland and its traditions. Seeking to create a salve for their shared sense of isolation\, they craft a song-and-dance revue in honor of the late Carlos Gardel\, an iconic tango dancer. These lively music numbers mix ballet and the tango\, and they spread from the theater to backstage and into the streets of Paris\, as these melancholy expatriates gallivant around their adopted home.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nInitial release: November 6\, 1985 (France)\n\n\n\n\nDirector: Fernando Solanas\n\n\n\n\nMusic composed by: Fernando Solanas\, Astor Piazzolla\, José Luis Castiñeira de Dios

It is based on the memoirs of André Devigny\, a member of the French Resistance held in Montluc prisonby the occupying Germans during World War II. The protagonist of the film is called Fontaine. The second part of the title comes from the Bible (John 3:8) using the words of the Authorized King James Version (more recent translations use words like “wants” (which is the title in French) or “pleases” instead of “listeth”). Bresson himself was imprisoned by the Germans as a member of the French Resistance. \nThe soundtrack uses the Kyrie from Mozart’s Great Mass in C minor\, K. 427.[1] The film was entered into the 1957 Cannes Film Festival. \n

SUMMARY:[:IW]סמינר האש\, הקלטות מהספריות הכחולה והשחורה\, ברנדון לבל[:en]The Fire Seminar (recordings from the black and blue library)\, Brandon LaBelle[:]
DESCRIPTION:The Fire Seminar (recordings from the black and blue library) \nBrandon LaBelle \nStaged as a collective listening session\, The Fire Seminar takes place in the back garden of the Hansen House and is centered on the building of a fire. Utilizing a modified oil drum along with prepared and found materials\, the Seminar is a performative situation aimed at reflecting upon states of dispossession and creative survival. \nShaping The Fire Seminar will be a collection of audio recordings and documents culled from the Black and Blue Library and amplified through a sound system. From Blind Willie McTell and Ella Fitzgerald to Memphis Slim and Louis Armstrong\, the project of the Blues can be heard as an audible catalogue of the beaten\, the forlorn\, the libidinal and the resilient\, forming a rich and complex narrative of lyrical redemption and celebration. As Fred Moten suggests\, the black poetic tradition is one of deep resourcefulness and creative improvisation\, which mobilizes the logic of loss toward new states of self-possession and collective determination. By punctuating the night with a blaze of fire\, The Seminar draws out the Blues as a particular audibility\, one flushed with traditions of oral culture\, musical soul and sonic intensity\, and that may compel a passionate listening. \nDeveloped in collaboration with the artistic research project Synsmaskin\, Bergen Academy: http://synsmaskinen.net \n– \nBrandon LaBelle is an artist\, writer and theorist working with sound culture\, voice\, and questions of agency. The play (and film) tells the story of the ill-fated love between Hanan and Lea\, the possession of Lea’s body by Hanan’s soul\, the exorcism ceremony\, and death as resolution – a re-encounter of the lovers in the next world. \nAdi Kaplan\, Shahar Carmel\, and Sala-manca not only re-edited the film\, they also replaced the original music composed by Henekh Kohn and the cantorial songs performed by Gershon Sirotta\, with a new score. Performed live by the Jerusalem Street Orchestra\, conducted by Ido Shpitalnik\, the score is an adapted version of the Vltva (The Moldau)\, the second symphonic poem of Má vlast (My Homeland)\, by Czech composer Bedřich Smetana. The use of Smetana’s Moldau as a clear reference to Israel’s national anthem – resonating it\, but different – creates a liminal sonic soundscape incapable of defining an accurate sense of place or ideology. \nLea Mauas and Diego Rotman of the Sala-manca group are professional and real life partners\, possessing the voices of the “dead but eternal” characters\, originally performed by another real-life couple\, Lili Liliana (Leah) and Leon Liebgold (Hannan) \nIn the spirit of The Dybbuk\, the artists visit the archive instead of the cemetery\, and invite the dead to dance with the living once again. \nWith the support of The National Authority for Yiddish Culture\, Ostrovsky Family Fund\, Hansen House\, Jerusalem Municipality\, Bet Shalom Aleichem\, and the Polish Institute.
